Your computer will not turn on
Power checks to run before you call.
- Check the power. Make sure the cable is firmly plugged into the computer and the wall. Try a different outlet.
- If it plugs into a power strip, check that the strip's switch is on.
- On a laptop, plug in the charger and wait ten minutes, then try again. A completely empty battery needs time.
- Look for lights on the computer or the charger. Note whether any light turns on or blinks.
- Hold the power button for about fifteen seconds, let go, then press it once.
- Unplug everything else, such as USB drives and docks, and try again.
- On a desktop, check that the monitor is on and its cable is plugged in. The computer may be running while the screen is off.
Good to know
If it still does nothing, tell us what lights you see, and whether anything spilled or dropped. Do not open the computer.
