Laptop battery and charging problems
The battery drains fast, or the laptop will not charge.
It will not charge
- Check that the charger is firmly plugged into the laptop and the wall. Try another outlet.
- Look for a light on the charger or the laptop. Check the cable for kinks or damage.
- Unplug the charger, restart the laptop, then plug the charger back in.
- Use only the charger made for your laptop. Others can be too weak or unsafe.
It drains fast
- Lower the screen brightness.
- Close programs and browser tabs you do not need.
- Open Settings, choose System, then Power & battery, and turn on Battery saver.
- Batteries wear out. If yours lasts under an hour, tell us.
Careful
If the battery is swollen, the case bulges or it smells hot, unplug it and stop using it. Tell us right away.
