Windows update is stuck or keeps failing
What to try when an update sits at the same percentage or will not finish.
Give it time first. Big updates can take an hour, and can sit at one percentage for a long while.
- If the screen says Working on updates or Do not turn off your computer, wait at least an hour with the computer plugged in.
- If nothing has changed after two hours, hold the power button until it turns off, wait a minute, and turn it on again.
- After it starts, open Settings, choose Windows Update and select Check for updates.
- If the same update fails again, write down the error code or take a screenshot, and open a ticket.
Careful
Do not turn the computer off during the first hour.
