Using AI tools at work
What is safe to type into an AI chatbot, and what is not.
AI chatbots can save time on drafting and brainstorming. But what you type may be stored or reviewed by the company that runs the tool. Treat a chat window like an email to an outsider.
Do not paste
- Customer names, addresses, account numbers or other personal information.
- Passwords, keys or login details.
- Financial records, contracts or anything covered by an agreement to keep it private.
- Health information or Social Security numbers.
Fine to use it for
- Drafting a general email or letter without private details.
- Explaining an idea or a topic.
- Polishing text you wrote, after you remove names and numbers.
Careful
Check the result before you use it. AI tools can be confidently wrong.
