What to do in the first few minutes, and why you should tell us right away.

Updated September 21, 2026

It happens to careful people. What matters is how fast you tell us, so do not wait to see whether something goes wrong.

  1. Call or text us at (231) 884-7146. Tell us what you clicked and what happened.
  2. If you typed a password, change it now, from a different device if you can. Use the steps in reset your Microsoft 365 password.
  3. If a file downloaded or a strange window appeared, do not open the file. Turn off Wi-Fi or unplug the network cable, and leave the computer as it is until we talk.
  4. If the message was about money, a payment or a bank account, call your bank or the person who supposedly sent it, using a number you already have.
  5. If you use the same password on other accounts, change it on those too.
Good to know

We would much rather hear about ten false alarms than miss one real problem. You will not be in trouble for telling us.
