Most business computers last about four to five years. After that they slow down, fail more often and may stop getting security updates.
Windows 10
Microsoft stopped providing free security updates for Windows 10 in October 2025. A computer still running it is at growing risk. Businesses can pay for extended updates for a limited time, but the long-term fix is Windows 11 on a computer that supports it. Signs it is time
- It is slow even after a restart and updates.
- It crashes or shows error screens more than once a month.
- On a laptop, the battery lasts under an hour.
- It cannot run Windows 11.
- A repair would cost about as much as a new computer.
