A message from the boss asking for gift cards or a quick favor
Fake messages from an owner or manager are a common trick.
You get a message that looks like it is from your boss. They are busy, they need a favor, and they want you to buy gift cards or pay something without asking questions. It is not your boss.
- Do not reply, and do not buy anything.
- Contact your boss by phone or in person, using a number you already have.
- Tell your coworkers, since the same message may go to others.
- Send the message to us.
Good to know
A real boss will not mind you checking. Any request that mixes money, secrecy and speed deserves a phone call.
