OneDrive is not syncing

What to check when files do not update or show an error.

Updated September 21, 2026

  1. Find the OneDrive cloud icon near the clock. If it has a line through it, a warning or a red X, select it to read the message.
  2. Check that you have internet, and that syncing is not paused. If it is paused, choose Resume syncing.
  3. Make sure you are signed in to OneDrive with your work account.
  4. Check that your computer has free space. See Free up space on your computer.
  5. Look for file names with characters OneDrive does not allow, such as a slash, a colon or a question mark, or for very long names.
  6. Restart the computer.
